In 7 days I leave for a four-week trip to Italy. This trip is a study abroad program through my major, SMAD. The School of Media Arts and Design offers a variety of study abroad programs, and Italy was a more spontaneous decision. In Italy, I will be working in the video section, producing stories that document the community of Urbino. I will get to work in production teams to help other students with their stories and also get a chance to pursue my own story. On deciding about this trip, I knew I wanted to study abroad but I was letting the limitations of language limit my choices. When I started discussing study abroad with other students that did it, they told me that I would never be 100% sure with the decision. “Just do it,” they told me. So I signed up. That was back in November and now I leave in 7 days. It is crazy to think back to the day I turned in my paperwork. I never thought the day to leave would come up so fast. My anxiety and my excitement seem to be riding a merry-go-round in my head and a tug of war in my stomach. One of major anxieties in forgetting things! I want to make sure I am completely prepared as to not face palm once I get to Italy when I realized I remembered everything but underwear. However, I could rest easy with my fathers motto, “If you forget something, buy it.” That might be true, but there are some things I cannot buy in Italy that they have here in America. Those things I need to make sure I have, like zip-lock bags and peanut butter! My merry-go-round mind is having trouble prepping for the longest trip I have ever taken. However, I am realizing that this is an opportunity to grow as a person. I have to step outside of my comfort zone and do something that scares me. I will be in another country for four-weeks! But you know what? This opportunity is insane and pretty darn cool. . I am extremely excited to see what this journey has in store for me.
If you want to keep up with what I am doing then check this blog post! I will try to post every couple of days.
